The Reef Dive Resort
Located to the north of Mabul, Mataking is three times the size of Sipadan and is only a 40 minute boat ride away from Semporna on the mainland. The size of the island is about 40 acres
Getting there
After arriving at the Tawau airport, you’ll be brought to the small town of Semporna, where you may have to stay a night in the little town depending on your time of arrival into Sabah. After which, you’ll need a one and a half hour speedboat ride to the island of Mataking Island.
Accomodation
There are eight high quality King-size double and Queen-size twin executive chalets, raised on stilts on the beachfront or slightly set back from the beach. The chalet bathrooms and balconies all have seaviews. There are also 24 double or twin deluxe rooms with seaview terraces.
Meals
All guests are able to have their meals Asian or Continental buffet-style, which comes with complimentary breakfast.
Facilities
Mataking Resort has great facilities of which include an excellent spa with complimentary jacuzzi. Resort facilities also include a restaurant & bar, kayak, beach soccer & volleyball rentals, Batik painting, Island hopping with visits to seaweed / fish farms, laundry service and even a babysitting service to gain some privacy time to yourselves.
Diving
The resort has daily three-tank dive boat trips to Mataking, Mataking Kecil, Pandanan and Bohayan, all between 5 and 20 minutes ride away. There are also twice weekly three-dive trips to Sipadan Island, 80 minutes away.
There are four speed boats used for diving Mataking and the surroundings reefs. Each boat is 8 – 10 metres in length with twin 100 HP engines, fitted for a maximum of ten divers. Divemasters are provided on all the diving day trips.
Unlimited House Reef dives are also available in front of the resort – just walk in from beach.
The resort dive centre has a fresh hot shower, equipment stations for guests’ dive gear, and rinse tanks for equipment and underwater cameras.
